Review on Efficient and Portable Wolverine PASS200 Handheld Scanner for Easy Document, Book, and Photo Scanning by Anthony Shields

Great scanner but needs trimming

PROS - Light weight - Smooth scanning - Excellent images. There are other scanners with the same performance at a lower price, but the PASS200 won me over because it has two rollers that allow for smooth scanning on a variety of surfaces. I haven't had a single slide or document gap, and I haven't had a bad scan from an imperfect surface. This isn't critical for those scanning things on their dinner table, but for those working in the field, the two-reel setup is a godsend. I bought this scanner to scan records and documents when my father became ill and required hospitalization in a long term hospital. I spent a lot of time between my house and his house, so lugging my multifunction printer around was impossible. as well as the flatbed scanner, which, as I understand it, broke down at the most inopportune moment. Although the main reason I bought it was to scan documents and medical records, I soon found that it gave nice resolution color scans even in "low quality" mode! At 300 dpi it surpasses the quality my old Canon flatbed scanner produced at much higher resolutions. This was a big surprise as my job requires frequent photo scanning. The portability of the PASS200 is great: I carry it in my office bag along with my Nikon DSLR, ZOOM recorder, lenses and laptop. With ten pounds of gear, I carry everything I need to handle any situation that arises in the field when I'm working. The PASS200 adds very little to that set, and with Eneloop batteries and the GoalZero Nomad solar panel, I always have enough power to get what I need no matter where I am. Now if only they offered it in a more muted color.
