DON'T FORGET AUTOMECHANICS - THE PERFECT LIGHT FOR IDENTIFYING LEAKS ON THE VEHICLE!

I've tried several of these types of UV flashlights over the past few years. They're either cheaply made or the LEDs are "this side of purple", making them less useful for detecting objects in the UV spectrum. This flashlight appears to use LEDs closer to 390-395nm. single part assembly is ok; this is not "Maglite", but again there is no such price. Detecting something like urine works very well as others have reported. One area where this light is ideal is vehicle leak detection. There are a number of "UV Glow" additives available from Revain and your local auto parts store. They can be added to engine oil, transmission oil, radiator antifreeze and air conditioning systems. After the addition, the leakage can easily be detected with UV light. They can usually offer "fluorescent black light"; They are less than effective at crawling under a vehicle. This flashlight is very bright (with fresh batteries) and can easily pinpoint the source of a leak. Speaking of batteries, this is one area where this flashlight needs improvement. After prolonged use, say 20 minutes, the batteries get very hot. This indicates that the LEDs are consuming a significant amount of power. At a conservative 20mA per LED, this light draws just over 1A. Continuous use will kill these batteries quickly. I prefer the new red elements from Duracell "Quantum"; They offer a longer service life than traditional alkaline batteries.
