It takes a jury, lubrication and perseverance

Expect to make your own modifications to this device, spend a lot of floor squatting and your hands will burn from the exertion of using it. But it works. Bought this to handle old school cleaning, double hung windows in San Francisco rising on rope cords, 6th floor of a building and interior cleaning. Our windows were dirty, our landlord never bothered to clean them before we moved in, and we had great views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the ocean. We were determined not to lose out to dirt, poor paintwork and rain stains. The problem was compounded by the fact that I spilled superglue on one of the edges of the sash when trying to seal the broken portion of the window. Adhesive leaked onto the outside of the window panes, right in the middle of the window. Oops. We basically had to clean the windows to avoid trouble with the landlord. So the madness begins. It took me 8 hours to clean the windows with acetone (removes glue and paint), a little vinegar in water and Sprayway glass cleaner (an old school gem, the only solution). When assembling the device, I had to remove the extension cords. Though everything is made from cheap plastic and aluminum, it was too heavy to use with even decent hand strength unless the windows were swiped up and down vertically and for just a few seconds. It also wobbles a bit, making it difficult to control. Much easier to catch and control with a shorter length (and you really don't need too long a length, it works great with just an extension or no extension for at least 4-5 feet). Unfortunately, in order to move from side to side, the flexion of the elbow on this device is set in the wrong place. You can create a U shape just below. It needs to be adjusted higher on the handle next to the pillow mount. So I had to sit on the floor and tilt it or (not recommended for safety reasons) sit on a windowsill and hang my head and shoulders out using the shorter length. Luckily I'm not afraid of heights. But hey, I did it! As for the mop - like everyone said, complete rubbish for above the second floor and for cleaning in corners. You can't use it if you try to use it on the opposite side of the window, the U shape cleans the outside from the inside (with or without the extension). If you're standing in front of the side of the window you're cleaning, say you're standing outside or on your lawn and only washing first or second floor windows in a perfect straight line from your body to the barbell, you're fine. For the mop head - don't bother cleaning with just the included pad. You can't remove it, it's firmly glued to the mop head and once it's dirty your windows will only get streaks if you use the gong forward. Keep dozens of cheap rags on hand so you can swap them out when the rag gets too dirty. Use rubber bands to tie the ends of the rags up and over the edges (pictured below) on either side, like a Swiffer mop. It also ensures your rag doesn't fall off in the wind or get wiped too hard from several floors down by unsuspecting pedestrians or the neighbor's cat. I will say that acetone is a window cleaners dream - no doubt it does the best job when you need to get something really sticky out of them. However, you must be careful not to leave the rag you use on the mop head for too long without diluting it in a bucket of water for a few minutes afterwards. Acetone eats up plastic and your rag will stick to the plastic mop head (horrible for your fingers). I also used duct tape at one point to attach a razor blade to the edge of the cleaning head to scrape something off. even acetone could not penetrate through the windows. Yes, it was that level of project obsession just to clean my windows. Long story short, MacGyver did a bit of work on this device and it's worth not spending $$$$ on a professional window cleaner. Finally I can't complain as I can now use this device over and over again and now I know what to do. Even if it ends up being a poorly designed product that will leave you squealing in frustration until you learn to deal with its limitations. Hope these tips help everyone!
