Wrong glue for the job.
The back of the emblem is set back slightly from the outer edges of the emblem. The double sided tape that attaches it to the tailgate is too thin for the job. He almost didn't touch the surface of the back door. I used silicone glue to attach the emblem after removing the remnants of the double sided tape from the back of the emblem and the surface of the trunk lid.
