5 stars for looks, this gate will look good in my house. It exceeded my expectations. In the light it looks very similar to my floors and in low light it goes well with our railings. 2 stars for installation. I struggled a bit, mostly because I'm very careful about aligning things horizontally and vertically. I had tried my level to get it straight in every direction. Close. I also used some grabbing cups because I didn't want to punch holes in the wall. This was another reason why the installation was more difficult. 4 stars for the quality as it is not solid wood. I didn't expect that for the price. I can't tell if it's plastic or some sort of composite wood. It looks good and is quite durable. I would probably say it's 4 1/2 stars. I also like the safety feature on the stairs. There is a small latch at the bottom of the door that prevents you from opening the door to the stairs. A very good feature for a family with young children or a person who works in a kindergarten. The gate also opens and closes smoothly and has a green indicator for a secure lock and a red indicator for an unsecured or unlocked lock. Overall I am very happy with my purchase.
