I was excited when I first turned the Alonefire on. The beam was nicely dark, without the residual greenish white of my 365nm Darkbeam S68 (single AA, ugly "tactical" styling with lots of fins and stuff, and you can focus it to different beam widths), but when played across a nearby display of Vaseline (uranium) glass, the output is obviously much higher than the Darkbeam. That was with the Darkbeam at its tightest focus, maybe half the beamwidth of the Alonefire. I widened the Darkbeam to match the Alonefire as best as I could, and the difference in power was even more obvious.So, high output, low visible "contamination", just a smooth cylinder with no "tactical" junk, and rechargeable. Seems to tick all the boxes.Alas, it was not to be. I played it around various glass items in my collection, several mineral samples, various pieces of art, enjoying the power, when I noticed a lack of the characteristic orange glow of the Imperial "slag" glass. Other things that also had that orange glow with the Darkbeam simply didn't with the Alonefire. Far as I can tell without putting it on the spectrometer, it's simply a common 395nm LED behind a filter which knocks out the 400-420nm violet that contaminates 395nm LED output.It's going to replace my old 395nm, because it's a definite step-up from the "Blacklight Master" 3 AAA battery, 9 LED cheapie that discharges its batteries spontaneously every few months (a common flaw in 3 AAA flashlights) and throws a ton of visible violet in addition to UV.Overall:5/5 for Vaseline glass. High output, low visible light.2/5 for other glass. You'll miss all the subtle colors that differentiate studios.1/5 for minerals.5/5 for craft projects. Works great with UV pigments mixed in epoxy.5/5 for glow-in-the-dark toys. "Charges" them fast, doesn't eat disposable batteries doing it.If you've got kids that are responsible enough not to shine it in someone's eyes (theirs, yours, friends, pets, etc) it's a perfect kid's blacklight for GitD toys, fluorescent toys, fluorescent makeup and jewelry, etc.
