Without a hood, our Yorkie jumped out several times and dangled from the harness. We thought the hood would solve the problem, but he was able to pull it off no matter how tight we pulled it. We decided to modify by adding a cross strap and buckle and a cross strap and buckle. While that makes it harder to get him out when we're done riding, I think he'll be safer.
