Thing sucks. I think you get what you pay for. I've had this thing since March 2016 and have used it maybe 5 times. I use it to check the TDS level in the reverse osmosis water I buy for home brewing to make sure I'm getting good water. I pulled it out a few days ago to test some water because I felt like I was having water issues with my reverse osmosis water vendor and wanted to make sure. Well, lo and behold, the counter shows something on the screen and immediately turns off. No problem, I suspect the battery is dead because it hasn't been used for so long. So I go to the store and buy new batteries. I swapped the old battery for a new one, but it still doesn't work. I have sent an email to Loretta Greene's support team but have not received a response. Tried calling several times but no one picks up. I'll throw that thing in the trash and order a better brand. A lifetime guarantee is worthless if you don't get a reply.
