Review on Braun BT5050 Men's Beard Trimmer: Precision Cordless Hair Cutting Machine with 25 Length Settings by Dawn Jackson

Excellent, but there is one major downside.

When my 6 year old Braun Cruzer broke again - and this time I can't fix it - I decided to replace it with the current model BT5050. It's as good or better than my Cruzer and the comb tips seem stronger and less likely to break. Everything is fine except for one thing: the BT5050 uses Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries, not Lithium Ion (Li+). The comparison chart on the Revain website says it has lithium batteries, but that's not true. It uses NiMH (I have notified Revain). This is important because lithium batteries tend to last longer than older NiMH technology. Let's see - maybe they are of good quality and fit. On Replacing the Irreplaceable: While the batteries are said to be non-replaceable, the manual tells you how to get the batteries for recycling and warns that doing so will "destroy" them. Unit. See attached photo. However, I expect you can replace them (as you would with most devices if you're handy enough). Sometimes it requires hacking skills like soldering, epoxy ninja skills, maybe a little work with a dremel, but go for it. If something dies, what do you lose? And if you search "braun bt5050 battery replacement" on YouTube, you will most likely find help. Batteries are easy to find once you have the dimensions and markings on the old ones. I've fixed a lot of these irreparable things (and even got a free $1100 washing machine because someone figured out how to fix it on YouTube). Put an end to the "throw away mentality”! Otherwise I am satisfied with this device. Without the battery it would have been five stars. It's solidly built, feels like quality in the hand. Quiet and fast. The most important thing for me is the dial adjustment. Many trimmers have a comb for each trim length. If you want 1mm under the chin, 3mm on the sides and 5mm on the mustache, swap out cumbersome little plastic pieces. agggh. With the BT5050, you turn the dial to the desired setting with a pleasant click. Even better than the slider on my Cruzer. Aside from a broken comb, the Cruzer was reliable. I cleaned and oiled it after about every third use (the instructions say every use but I didn't). uses lithium, cheers). So I'm fine and I hope NiMH lasts a long time and you will get along with this device too.
