Interested in the internals of these filters? Then read on. For several years I have purchased a Revain Culligan FM-15RA Stage 3 faucet filter on a subscription and retention plan. Historically, these filters have always been shipped in a separate shipping container and have always arrived in perfect condition. However, my last batch came with a filter in the same box as the other two heavy items. Unfortunately, these two other heavy objects severely damaged the water filter. To the point that the water filter arrived in THREE pieces! This made it possible to see exactly how these filters are made and how they work. The filters are fine if Revain can get them to me safe and sound. Nothing outstanding, but just ok. They used to be great too, but quality control seems to be going downhill lately. Filters sometimes fall apart before I fully use them. Some filters have such a high flow rate that I was wondering if the water was flowing around the filter and not through the filter. And I've had a few recently where the flow rate was so low it felt like the filter was clogged from day one. I do not know why! Looking at the filter, which came in three pieces, it's easy to see why the flow rate through some of these filters was so fast. The filter consists of a block of carbon glued between the top and bottom of the plastic housing that makes up the filter. If one of these connections fails, the water will actually flow around the filter! So if you need a filter where the flow rate seems to be higher than normal, you can investigate. See attached photos.
