Next year I always order size by size. A little big, but there is a drawstring at the bottom that can be tightened if needed. The shirt is loose, but he likes it that way. My grandson is 7 years old, 48 inches tall, 50 pounds. He's average for his class, so I'm guessing he's average height. The shorts are a little big but then again they have a drawstring waist, he likes to wear underwear under his swimsuit so that's ok. We use it on the beach and in the pool. It keeps very well, not damaged by chlorine or sun after 3 months.
