Expired Protein

Bought these for my sister as she is remodeling as a mom. She took one as soon as she opened the box and said it tasted funny. As we started reading everything that was there, I looked at the expiry date and saw that they expired on May 1st, 2020. We received this yesterday (Sunday) June 14, 2020. It sucks because she's having surgery next week and I wanted her to start the week before. Now I have to send them back and refund. How can you sell expired goods?
