I made sure the surface of the stairs was scrubbed, cleaned and left to dry overnight. Installation was pretty easy. The steps were advertised as non-slip. I have a large yellow labrador retriever that knocked out nine of the thirteen steps on the first pass. After installing the tracks, he completely knocked out seven tracks. I'm still looking for the reusable adhesive advertised on the product. If you enjoy reinstalling your stair treads every time they are used, then this product is for you. You can probably find other useless stair treads for a lot less. They also went down stairs with a vacuum cleaner.
