Smells and needs more temperature control

As soon as I plugged in the heater and turned it on, I could smell a strong smell of burnt plastic. I assumed it would go away after a while, but after 20 minutes I gave up and turned it off. Now my whole house smells, and it was only in my office. Nothing was smoldering or anything, and the smell was instantaneous. Regardless of the smell, controlling the temperature or fan speed is not enough. It has 3 modes: fan only, low heat and high heat. The low temperature is still quite hot, and the high temperature is very hot. Fan speed isn't controlled, so the fan will blow at the same speed at either of the two temperatures you choose. This makes it useless as a personal heater. On the lowest heat setting, it puts out so much heat that my entire desk overheats in seconds. Then I have to turn it off. Then a few minutes later, when the heat dies down, I have to turn it back on. The fan itself is a bit noisy given its size, and loud enough to draw the attention of everyone in the room. The tilt switch is simply a spring button on the bottom of the heater instead of the regular mercury switch used in most other heaters. The front grille gets quite hot after just a few minutes of operation, which is to be expected, but makes handling the device difficult. It's pretty small and easy to move around, so you have to hold it with a second hand when turning it on and off, otherwise the whole device just spins on the wooden floor when I try to use the watch face. The fact that the entire face of the device can't be touched when trying to turn it off, combined with the light weight requiring a second hand when using the watch face, makes it much more difficult to use without turning it on burn. In general, I just couldn't get over the smell. I stood for 20 minutes and during that time the smell didn't go away at all. The smell of air coming straight from the fan was very strong even after 20 minutes so I will never use the heater again.
