I chose this product as it would have been my best Christmas present as a child. I loved drawing and sketching and these sets have always been very expensive. Compared to today's prices (related to video games), this is a bit cheaper. I don't know the brand name so I have no idea what to expect in terms of quality. OUT OF THE BOX: You will receive a heavy box with a handle but cannot be opened. I had to open it from the side. Then slide out 6 things and two cards: 1. A 13" x 17" tray with a clip on the short end, a handle on the long end, and a large elastic band around the narrowest width.2. Drawing paper 9 x 12”, 40 sheets thick paper (50#), suitable for all dry materials3. Sketch pad 9 x 12 inch, 100 sheets thick paper (50#), suitable for any dry materials4. Small wire sketch pad 5.5 x 6 inch, 100 sheets thick paper (70#), suitable for any dry materials5. Black tote bag: 12 inches long, 8 inches high, and 6 inches wide. With 6 pockets on the outside, each measures 4 inches high, 4 inches wide and approximately 1 inch deep. My first thought when looking at this bag was that it was too small for all but the smallest pillows and too loose for all art supplies. All pens, charcoal, pastel and tools are in a plastic case with cutouts. A card congratulates you on the purchase of this item8. A map shows different types of colors. My first impression when looking at this great value set is that you get what you pay for. Some corners have been cut. If all the drawing tools were kept in one big bag, they would go bad within a day. Ideally, you should provide several pencil cases. Charcoal and chalk are in removable containers. But if the box were foldable, it would be just as easy to leave it in the box you bought it in. If you rely on pencils you'll have a decent set, but when it comes to sharpeners why not just get a decent one that catches chips rather than two sawed off ones? Otherwise chaos will ensue. Erasers and blenders are fine. It's not like the oil pastels I'm familiar with. There is also no characteristic odor. The markers on the brush tips have a nice tip, but watercolor brush pens react to pressure. These are good, but really just markers. Square pastel - chalk. I'm just pointing this out because sometimes they're oily too. The paper confused me at first what the difference was between sketch paper and drawing paper as both said "paper is thick, acid free, fine textured, great for anything dry."media, erases cleanly" both are 9"x 12", 50#, and then I unwrapped them. Sketch paper isn't as white as drawing paper. Same goes for the smaller spiral pad. The clamp pad is similar to what I have, but I had the clamp on the wide end and the clamp was Slightly heavier overall..GENERAL INFO: I like paper, pencils and charcoal but I'm not impressed with oil pastels and markers.The bag may be more useful in the garden.
