Review on Ergon GP5 Ergonomic Grips by Joseph Hernandez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very comfortable and helps with numb hands

I have a hybrid/comfort bike for evening and weekend training. I already have a couple of large extended-grip holds; but after 15-20 minutes of driving there was still numbness in the hands. I upgraded my gloves to an OutdoorMaster Half Finger with a cushioning gel pad and it has allowed me to last up to 30-40 minutes before the numbness kicks in. The Ergon GP5 has a large palm rest to distribute pressure and I love the grips to change hand position for added comfort without sacrificing bike control. I still play with the best grip position for comfort; but I like it when they're a little higher than when they're almost horizontal. The crank hole on the Ergon grips felt too big or my handlebars were too small in diameter because the Ergon grips slipped, didn't exert much effort and spun freely once I put my hands on them. I've experimented with double wrapping black tape the length of the hand grips and using hairspray to smudge the stem/tape (YouTube trick). The grips continued with some resistance and required some effort as the hairspray began to evaporate after a while to adjust to the most comfortable arm/palm angle. I also had to slide the grips all the way in where the bar ends were next to the Ergon adjustable grips which are held in place with an Allen screw. Otherwise the Ergon grips will come loose while riding. Because of this, the supplied decorative caps were too long to insert; but no one will notice. I have no handlebar rotation while riding and the bars are very secure at the ends. You may not have the same problem with your bike as I do. I even ordered a second pair for my wife's bike because I love the comfort upgrade so much.
