I tested these as replacements for the cheap nutcrackers sold in Christmas gift sets. peel nuts. The grip is not padded but still more comfortable than the cheap set they replace. I like the look of these a lot better. The hinge on them has no resistance at all. I don't think they fade over time. There are 2 points where you can place a nut. The smaller one worked well for the almonds and the walnuts fit perfectly in the larger gap. They are not suitable for more than one walnut. The replaced set rusted very quickly. They seem to be of better quality and I don't expect to experience the same issues, but it's too early to tell. There are 4 picks in the set but they are double headed so they don't work well with nuts. They are for seafood. I don't cook mussels at home so won't try it, but I'm pretty happy with the crackers.
