Replaced a similar Shimano shifter on my crappy old Sears "hybrid" bike that I ride to work. You will need an adjustable wrench or a set of wrenches and a set of metric allen wrenches. I left the cables full length and just wrapped the loose ends in a nice loop so I didn't have to dig up the crimped ends of the cable or pull out the soldering iron to keep the ends of the cable from falling off. I like loops, they remind me of high school when all the cool guys in garage bands would do the same thing to their electric guitar strings to make the tuning pegs look like they were in the middle of a barbed wire fence, you know. I've got a few tries needed to find out if the rear derailleur was loose in 1st or 6th gear? Somehow I got confused and now my bike has all eighteen gears, of which I use the first three. Oh, here's a helpful tip. The new buttons may snap onto the ends of the handlebars. If you have an air compressor, put a blower tip on it (as opposed to a tire inflator tip or basketball tip), plug the hole at the other end of the handlebars (or grip if you still have one) and "pump up" . " new grip by blowing compressed air through the small hole at the end. This will cause it to expand and slide straight on.
