Replaced a similar Shimano shifter on my crappy old Sears "hybrid" bike that I ride to work. You will need an adjustable wrench or a set of wrenches and a set of metric allen wrenches. I left the cables full length and just wrapped the loose ends in a nice loop so I didn't have to dig up the crimped ends of the cable or pull out the soldering iron to keep the ends of the cable from falling off.
