These hard-wearing filter bags save me the tedious and time-consuming cleaning and drying of the tea strainer after every cup of tea. A good quality cup of tea typically costs at least $0.15, so $0.03 for a filter bag is a trivial price for easy filling and brewing, as well as eliminating the inconvenience of cleaning. I have used three brands of paper filter bags in the past; One brand broke very easily and the other two changed the delicate taste of the tea. I find these filters a bit less permeable than paper filters, but adding 20%-25% to the brew time balances that out nicely.
