Review on Schumacher DSR118 Handheld Battery Charger by Issac Smart

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Manual and Auto mode are mandatory

I have used chargers my whole life and found them to be trouble free. Over forty years of use and my Schumacher fuck me. I was about to order the same model until I decided there are manual chargers and automatic chargers - each has its own purpose and each has its drawbacks. The loading machine cannot detect a fully discharged battery and would therefore indicate that the battery is exhausted. Manual charging only knows that the battery is connected and tries to charge it. Under certain conditions, this can bring the battery back from the dead. On the other hand, the manual charger cannot detect that the battery is fully charged and can damage the battery if left on for too long. So what to do? It's not often that a battery is so discharged that it can't be charged with an automatic charger. So should the average user have two chargers? No, the Shoemaker PS-1022MA saves the day. It has both manual and automatic modes. In my case, it saved me from buying a new battery. After being away for several months, the battery in our truck was so empty that nothing worked anymore. Charging started in manual mode to wake up the battery, then in automatic mode to fully charge it, and two months later the battery is still doing its job.

Pros
  • Service mode 15 to 40 amps
Cons
  • Some problems
