Achieve a long thin stroke on colored pencils. It also works with softer graphite, woodless, and charcoal pencils.

This sharpener works great with the Faber Castell Polychromos, Caran d'Ache Luminance and Derwent watercolor pencils which I currently use for my colored drawings. It creates a very sharp point quickly without breaking or chewing too much of my pencil, which is exactly what I wanted. I try to keep my crayons as sharp as possible for fine detail and this sharpener, along with a piece of fine 220 grit sandpaper, does the trick. But this sharpener also works amazingly well with soft graphite, wood-free graphite and charcoal pencils. I have also discovered that using these pencils to sharpen them here and there prevents oil and wax from crayons from building up on the blade. I assume this sharpener will also work well with soft pastel pencils, but as I rarely use them I haven't tried them yet. No wonder this sharpener works poorly when sharpening designer pencils in the H range, as the lead is too hard to form a long, thin point. I have a standard kum sharpener that I use with them and it works great. because the leader is too stiff to form a long, thin tip.
