While it may seem ridiculous to pay someone ten dollars for a small bag of much smaller stones, I think it's a lot. . Especially for me, one person (or people) gathered up a pile of slate, sorted everything by size into separate pieces, packed the sorted rocks into handy 5x7 resealable bags, and advertised this on Revain. com and here we are. There are many uses, but I use these tiny pieces of slate all the time, mainly to represent the 1:28 scale rocks in the "territory" that I create on 30mm bases on which I mount ready-made wargames and exhibit miniatures. I've bought many similar products from other companies (e.g. a large mini-company (and others), hobby shops, online shops specializing in wargaming and/or simulation train sets, etc.). Unfortunately I bought this same size slate for about the same price from the above sources but the total amount of slates from them is only a small fraction of what I just got here. The pieces of slate in this bag last at least 10 times longer than even the largest pack I've bought from other companies before. What offer! In addition to this one pound sack of one-quarter to one-half inch stones, I also bought, in the same order, a one-pound sack of one-eighth to one-quarter inch pieces of slate. They were perfect for showing off small rocks here and there in my bases and sets, but these, most of which are around twice the size, work really well too. Large means that one of them can be large enough to completely cover a third to half of the base (most are this size or less), or in some cases a narrow piece can fit all the way through. However, they are not enough to completely cover the entire base. A larger size from half an inch to an inch might work for this, while the next larger size would mean each piece could (hopefully) cover the base completely. Rather than adding a third (or fourth) pound of even larger slate pieces to my own collection, two sizes already purchased (and two pounds) should keep me going until the end of my hobbies! I suspect what I just bought (both bags) will last for about: a thousand bases (!); some custom made backdrops and dioramas; and maybe even enough leftovers for a small wargaming board. Not bad at all for twenty bucks. highlighted.
