I have Mars Black and they are smoother but sometimes black doesn't pair well with lighter varieties. So I thought I'd take the time to try them out. Some of the pens in the set don't sharpen well. It's frustrating that they keep breaking before you even start using them. I've tried different sharpeners and it made no difference. Second, some pencils actually smell bad when sharpened. I love pencils and have many brands so I was a bit surprised by the wood smell. A few pencils are also prickly - they bite paper easily. (My prisms don't even do this in the lightest classes). After correcting this, however, they usually drew a picture. However, it's not fabulous.
