I was dying to try Behringer's new inexpensive microphone. They have a track record of delivering healthy products at a reasonable price. Yes, this mic looks like a Beta 58A and sounds good. I used to buy one of the old Behringer Ultravoice XM8500. Just for fun to be honest since it was a $19 mic. How good can he be? Not bad. The new 85A sounds crisper with more mids than the 8500, and I was initially impressed with how well it compares to the other more expensive mics in my arsenal. It seems well built. My complaint was related to the processing noise. It's terrible. Worse than even 8500. For podcasts or recording this would be fine. The microphone is not processed and is not subject to feedback from the PA. The odd thing is that the radiation pattern was good and the off-axis rejection was great. The problem for me was the lack of damping in the microphone body and its tendency to oscillate at higher volumes, leading to mains feedback. Generally this is not a problem. bad effort but couldn't handle the excessive noise and resonance while running so it came back.
