Works great so far in almost every way

This keyboard, video, and mouse (KVM) switcher has helped me declutter my desk by allowing my work laptop and home PC to use the same keyboard, monitor and mouse. I can switch between computers with the click of a button. Overall, I found the installation "plug and play" with no trial and error. built-in speakers). The monitor only receives video signals. Since the KVM switch is HDMI only and my work laptop doesn't have an HDMI port but does have a DisplayPort++ port, I brought a BENFEI DisplayPort (male) to HDMI (female) adapter (which Revain advertised as "commonly bought together") with me this KVM switch) to connect a laptop to the monitor cable of the KVM switch. (I couldn't find a KVM switch for just two computers that had different types of video connections for each computer.) If I connect my laptop directly to a monitor via VGA and bypass the switch for everything, I get both video and audio. And when I use headphones or an external speaker with the laptop (regardless of whether a keyboard and mouse KVM switch is connected), I get sound. I spent an hour troubleshooting with a very patient Tripp Lite customer service representative who finally got me to try to get audio on the monitor through the audio jack on the KVM switch. However, that didn't work either. He pointed to the adapter as the likely culprit. What ever. I think I'll have to use external wired laptop speakers (which for some reason don't work with bluetooth speakers, although they seem to recognize them). Sigh. Serve me what I'm trying to simplify. After all, I only used this KVM switch for two days; Time will tell how well it holds up to everyday use.
