The best dashcam, with a few exceptions

First of all, don't be fooled, Thinkware makes the best dashcams. I upgraded from F800 PRO. The U1000 has a nice wide viewing angle (150 degrees) and "good" 4K (front) and rear (2K) video quality. While it's not the best 4K quality, it's pretty damn good. Make sure you're watching the video on a 4K screen or you'll see pixelation. The parking modes are amazing! The traffic alerts/alerts are annoying at best - I turned them off. I personally use high sensitivity for parking incidents and medium sensitivity for parking traffic. I use medium sensitivity for continuous driving and accidents. Some reviewers recommend a low sensitivity. Once the optional radar module (for extended parking coverage) is released, I definitely plan to buy it. The rear camera rotates (up and down) so you can adjust the angle of the video based on the angle of your rear window. The reason I only gave it 4 STARS: The files are huge! One minute of 4K video takes over 200MB (front camera) and 100MB rear camera. They only contained a 32GB mini SD and that was NOT enough storage space. Thinkware should include 128GB as a standard option for such high quality large video files and an expensive camera. Since it doesn't, I STRONGLY recommend you get one - and make sure it's of the same quality as the dash cam. I've read that 256GB cards aren't supported (Thinkware, correct me if I'm wrong?). It doesn't make sense for dual (4K front + 2K rear) DVR. Rotate the camera mount to record in the car (for police checks). Let's hope someone makes a third-party rotating mount. I'll update this review once I get a chance to use it more often. I have a trip planned for this weekend.

Pros
  • 150 degree viewing angle
Cons
  • So far so good
