I had to run a new wire to the front doorbell button as the old one had shorted out somewhere and was routed behind the drywall and ceiling on the first floor. The house is brick clad, so I had to drill a 1/2 inch deep hole behind the knob, through the sheathing and insulation to the interior wall's drywall, but not through it. After long careful measurements I drilled a hole. from the basement through the floor and into the lower part of the same wall. It took a few tries, but I was able to slide the assembled pole behind the vapor barrier while carrying a length of 60# twine until it was visible through the 1/2 inch hole behind the bell button. It was sturdy enough and flexible enough to get the job done. I only had about a foot of space under the hole at the bottom of the wall to rotate the pole vertically and route it up.
