This is ideal when using a low gain mic like the Rode Podmic. This requires phantom power, so if you have a 48V audio interface or sound card, you don't need a separate external power supply. I checked out Cloudlifter but the quality is just as good and I'm very impressed with its transparency. It doesn't really color the sound at all. It should also be noted that the housing is made of metal and has braces on the front and back to protect the XLR cables. The mounts are also good for attaching the device to a microphone stand with Velcro. I highly recommend it to anyone doing podcasting, streaming or recording vocals.
