Review on Enhanced Communication with Midland MicroMobile 15W GMRS Two-Way Radio and Control Microphone Combo by Johnny Wheat

Revainrating 5 out of 5

come on real Nobody uses GMRS yet, so why buy it? Well, because it's a great radio.

Well, like I said in the title. No one uses GMRS yet, so any GMRS radio purchase is actually a targeted purchase so you can communicate to your family and friends that you've been talking about buying their own equipment. So here are the general benefits of using a GMRS radio. pure frequencies. Not full of a bunch of third graders who enjoy scolding everyone who speaks, and certainly not full of a bunch of truckers running 500-watt amps and banging your gear into the amps every time you drive past a truck chase air. Most, if not all, of the equipment available for GMRS is new, so there really are no "out of bounds" electronic Frankensteins that cause unlimited static. That is, when you speak, everything is clear; if you listen, everything is clear. Despite correct installation of the antenna. Speaking of antenna. You might be confused by the small magnetic mount that comes with the device. It works well, but its size confuses most CB enthusiasts used to seeing 107-inch pins on Jeeps. does not apply to this review. Suffice it to say that the short length is fully compatible with safe and efficient operation on GMRS frequencies. Yes, GMRS is line of sight and larger antennas give better coverage (note Midland makes a long alternative 6dB gain antenna that works exceptionally well), but the small antenna that comes with the unit has its own cable and can be easily placed on the hood or on the roof. With the Wrangler, you can let your creativity run free and install or mount it directly onto the hood, and it's ready to go in minutes. Due to its small size, the antenna can be stowed away in the center console when not in use. What makes this purchase great for a Wrangler owner or anyone looking to set up pure radium or just confine it to cabin space is that the radio itself can be mounted under the seat, behind the dash, wherever you want, given its location all controls are located in the interior Microphone . In my case I installed it in 2 Jeep Wranglers on a plastic bezel just in front of the shifter. It's easy enough to remove the bezel, remove the mesh, and permanently mount the device right there. I added an after sale item, a retractable mic mount to complete the installation. In my setups, I've attached the retractable mount to the center roof handle, but you can really mount it anywhere, or not use it at all. When I'm driving on the freeway, my microphone is at dashboard level, and both the driver and passenger can easily control and communicate with it. Also, I bought antennas with 6dB gain to keep our settings constant. The cons of this radio are not really radio specific. They are technology specific. To use GMRS, you must first obtain an FCC license. Not to be confused with amateur radio. You are not. The license does not require an exam, simply register with the FCC and pay the fee. In return, you will receive a GMRS call sign that can be used by the whole family and is valid for 10 years. What's not to like about it? Well, that's because, like all federal registrations, you really need to be patient when trying to find the right place to register and pay for your license. They make it difficult to find. Another disadvantage of radio is that you have to open repeater channels manually, which is counterintuitive. Therefore, I strongly recommend that you take off your reading glasses and read the instruction manual. In fact, the manual is very small, so do yourself a favor and download a PDF copy from the Midland website. All in all, this is an amazing GMRS radio that really has no downsides. Just keep in mind that GMRS is not yet widely deployed and used. So if you buy one, you really need to fit a second one in or buy multiple wearables and give them to your friends and family. However, crystal clear communication and proper antenna alignment provide greater outdoor range compared to standard CB. This is a great radio to recommend to all members of your jeep club before your next intercity trip.

Pros
  • 50 MILE RANGE - Complete 15W radio with external magnetic antenna for longer range.
Cons
  • Not everything fits
