Great for the price.

This product exceeded my expectations and met all my needs with some caveats. Here are my observations. Design and Features: The extension cord is solidly built due to its metal construction. It comes with a power adapter and a USB cable. It's also relatively compact, but that's only evident from photos of its competitors. Interestingly, compared to the competition, it seems to be the only one with a Type-b connector on the receiver end, while most others have a Type-a connector requiring a Type-aa cable, which is unfortunate. So kudos to the designers for that. Finally, the price is about half that of others that have similar features. Function: My use case for this product is to extend surveillance DVR to a portable display. I chose a Raspberry Pi compatible 7 inch display with touch capabilities. Unfortunately the touchscreen wasn't working due to other reasons, but I tested a regular USB mouse with some issues as mentioned below. The display has a resolution of about 1024 x 700, so I didn't go over the resolution limit. But I had no problem with the CAT6 wiring from the closet to the kitchen (< 60 feet). The transmitter is the only side that needs power, which is nice too. Issues/Limitations: The quality of the Ethernet cable is important. It took me a while to realize that a cheap ethernet cable, while short (5-6 feet), won't do the trick. Worked with CAT6 or higher. I don't get close to 100ft to check it out. This is not a product issue, just a warning. - The transmitter can get warm, although my location for this is in the warm part of the toilet. I will be supervising so this is just a possible consideration. The only real problem I had was that after about a day of continuous use, I noticed that the mouse wouldn't stop responding. Resetting the transmitter solved the problem. I didn't know how often this happens because if the touch surface isn't working, I probably won't be using the mouse all the time, but it's nice to have that option. I suspect this is one of the hardest things to do with most of these KVM boxes, so I'm not at all surprised. But I might settle for a workaround that uses a timer to reset the transmitter once a day to reset its firmware. This is the main reason for 4/5 stars. Generally very good so far.
