Review on ☕️ BonJour Hot Beverage Ceramic French Press Coffee Maker: Flavorful Brewing with Bamboo Handle, 32 oz, Red Stripes by Heather Hernandez

Terrible scratching noise

In hindsight, ceramic cookware isn't the best choice for a French press, at least not considering the design of the BonJour press. I love the way it looks (festive for the winter holidays) but that's about all I like. At first I was disappointed to see that large styrofoam blocks were used to pack the product. This is not environmentally friendly. Recyclable molded egg cartons should be used. Ergonomically, I don't like how they make that awful scraping noise when the piston goes up. I was expecting the filter to have some sort of silicone ring or flange around it to create a seal and prevent scratches, but that didn't happen. Metal vs. ceramic not only sounds terrible, but also leaves a mark. I can see streaks after just a few uses. All of the presses I own are either borosilicate glass or stainless steel. Ceramic is the least resistant to thermal expansion (quickly from temperature extremes). French presses are great because they allow hot water to fully penetrate the tea leaves or coffee grounds, resulting in a stronger and more flavorful brew compared to drip percolation. Go with one of the borosilicates instead, which has the added benefit of being able to see through. Additionally, this press holds 32 oz. A traditional cup of coffee weighs 8 ounces, not 4 unless you're talking about espresso. I don't see anything innovative about their advertised "taste blocking filter". This is the same steel mesh used on my other filters. To disassemble and clean the filter, hold the plunger rod with one hand (easiest near the handle) and twist the filter assembly with the other hand (the top with the coils is called the "spiral plate" and the bottom is called the "cross plate"). It is unscrewed and removed for cleaning. I wish I had known this when I had my first Bodum. I destroyed the cross plate and tried to figure out how to get between the cracks.
