Review on Tunze Comline 9004 DC Protein Skimmer by Leslie Broussard

I bought a used RSM 250 tank a few years ago and for a number of reasons I never liked the standard skimmer. It was loud, shimmered randomly, and was difficult to tune. The stock skimmer pump also generated a lot of heat, which always kept my water temperature high. (I replaced the stock lights with LEDs to keep the heat down). While I understand that silence is a relative term, the DOC 9004 DC is quiet compared to a standard skimmer. So quiet I have to take the drip tray off to see if it's on. It produces a dark, thick skimming without removing much water from the tank, which my ATO loves. During the break-in period, I saw some of the microbubbles that others have mentioned in their reviews, but they went away after about a week. If you own an RSM 250 and are looking for a solid replacement for your standard skimmer, give this one a try. As an added bonus, it is MUCH smaller than a standard skimmer, giving me plenty of room on the back of the skimmer to install a custom skimmer.
