Unlike other reviewers, I had no problem cracking the egg in the shell. The problem is that the eggs get very brittle and if you try to hard boil them they almost always break. I think it requires sous vide but I haven't tried it yet. Even the few eggs that haven't cracked are almost impossible to peel without cracking the egg. All of these problems are caused by the membrane detaching from the shell from the inside. It is good to pre-shake the eggs in the carton and then use them for an omelette within a week. Already mixed eggs make this very quick and easy. I can't really fault the product itself as it actually works, it's just slightly misleading to say that it can easily make those "golden eggs".
