These bags have a smooth synthetic lining and a water-resistant finish. When I first saw openings in bags I thought that they are not very effective as they cannot be closed with a zipper. Just two flat strips of plastic next to each other and a clasp. But once you roll them up and snap the clasp, nothing will get in or out! Just two quick twists were enough to make it completely sealed, even when I squeezed the pouch. Haven't used them outside yet (winter!) but I put a paper towel inside, closed it and slipped the whole bag under the kitchen faucet where the water ran in all directions. The water stayed out and the paper towel inside stayed completely dry. The included strap makes it easy to connect the tote bags or attach them to the kayak and ensure they don't fall overboard. I can't wait to use them extensively when the weather warms up!
