Review on LG 49WL95C-W 49-Inch Curved Ultrawide 5120x1440p Monitor with Tilt and Height Adjustment by Charlie Fabijan

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Great for the office, terrible for gaming, there are better options

I needed a monitor surface this size for both work and play. All other 5120x1440 displays are sold out thanks to Covid so I went with this one which is currently the most expensive. Big mistake. First of all about the good. This is a great monitor. It's a nice IPS screen. It's extremely aesthetic, better than the Samsung CRG9 that it replaced. The colors are very bright. Watching movies about this thing is something worth paying attention to. Unfortunately, it's also a 60Hz panel with a 5ms response time and no freesync or G-sync, meaning it's TERRIBLE for ANY type of gaming. Don't even try. Screen tearing, artifacts, shakes and lags make games unplayable due to increased eye strain and terrible image quality. miserable experience. The lack of curvature is also a big issue with a screen of this size. You have to place this monitor a few feet away from you or the edges will look too flat. The effect is like looking at the screen in the headrest of the neighbor's plane out of the corner of your eye, but with better color reproduction because it's IPS. There was another reviewer who mentioned this issue and he was absolutely right. Having tried this and the 1800R replacement I have to say that it is better to go with the more curved 1800R screen as the edges are smoother and equidistant from your eyes when you consider your field of view. As for IPS vs. QLED. It's a little bit better. about 10% better. It's noticeable, but I don't miss it. The only reason I would recommend this monitor is if you NEED an IPS screen for that small advantage in picture quality, NEVER plan
