Review on LG 49WL95C-W 49-Inch Curved Ultrawide 5120x1440p Monitor with Tilt and Height Adjustment by Corey Snoddy

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The built-in KVM switch cannot be used, make sure your video adapter is compatible

Good news first: The display quality is as expected. I *didn't* expect this to be a 4K monitor, and I didn't expect it to be a great gaming monitor with a very fast refresh rate and response time. I expected it to look great and be a good performance monitor when running at its native 5120 x 1440 resolution and it exceeded my expectations. I also expected to be able to split the screen into 2, 4 and 8 squares and have apps pinned in those squares and this feature works very well. I also expected the built-in KVM switch to work as advertised, but LG's "Dual Controller" software is so unstable and buggy that it cannot be used. It's so bad it's SORRY! If a built-in KVM switch that allows you to control two computers connected to the monitor with a single keyboard and mouse is an obstacle for you, then forget about this monitor right here and now. If you search YouTube for "LG Dual Controller" you'll find a demo video of the feature, but pay attention to the comments below. It seems that many people have found this feature useless. I'm a professional software engineer and all I can say is that LG should be ashamed to ship this "Dual Controller" software because it *obviously* is so unstable and unreliable that they never use it should have delivered. Event log entries show unhandled exceptions and access violations. Initially, it didn't run on any of my computers. After disabling the wireless network adapter and unplugging the ethernet cable, I was able to get it working. I then plugged in the network cable and when I added it as a "slave" computer it showed the computer's "preferred IP address" which is not the IP address of the network card. The "primary" machine can only connect half the time, but then loses the connection. Another disappointment is that a PC with the new G-Force video adapter will not drive the monitor at its native level. Resolution via HDMI. I can't blame the monitor for this, but the key is to make sure your video adapter can drive the monitor at native resolution (5120x1440) through the interface you intend to use. Update 10/10/2019: After 2 months of use I've noticed a spot on the glass but it's not on the glass - some form of broken "i" sized pixels in a 6 point font - not a tragedy, directs but definitely off. I have contacted LG who will (luckily) send a technician to my home to fix/replace the panel. there is no backup), then I will add another star to the rating.
