This item did not work on first use. I strapped my helmet onto my bike and the key return didn't go into the lock. Luckily there was an auto parts store across the street. I bought a small can of WD-40 and oiled the lock. It worked about twenty minutes later and hasn't let me down since. So if you buy one, lubricate it with oil before use and make sure the key works smoothly. Otherwise it works fine. When it comes to security, there is no lock that will actually secure your helmet. All you need is a pair of bolt cutters and you can remove any of them.
