Warning for dogs with fine coats

It didn't seem to help my dog at all. Bought because the fireworks in my area started about 2 months before the 4th. So we had enough time to train my dog before July 4th. There are so many strong velcro straps on this piece that you have to pull hard to lift the flaps and position the jacket properly. The scratching of the velcro really scared my dog. She saw Thundershirt come out and hid from me. We even tried it for a short time when I knew there wouldn't be any random fireworks. Lots of praise and treats whenever she was in. It didn't seem to matter. She walked restlessly when it was on, constantly trying to scrape it off the furniture or shaking her whole body to throw it off. After a while I added the spray they sell hoping it would make a difference but I didn't notice any change. My biggest complaint about this product is the sharp corners on all the velcro straps. My dog has a very fine and thin coat on the underside of her body so there is not much protection for her sensitive skin. She is a mix of terrier and poodle. I tried rounding the corners with velcro but it was still pretty sharp. I ended up cutting a thin strip of fabric and sewing it to the sharp ends of the Velcro just to be on the safe side. Other than that, everything is pretty well done. As I mentioned, lots of strong Velcro straps that attach well and the whole thing feels very durable once you put it on your dog. My dog is quite long and low but has a large chest. I bought the size S for a 15 lb terrier mix.
