Review on 🚲 BELL Sixer MIPS Mountain Bike Helmet for Adults by Fort Steffen

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great looking helmet, fits well and really saved my head but there are a few downsides.

This helmet really saved my head from an unexpectedly low branch, took a real hit that badly dented the outer shell and broke one of the inner foam ribs in half, but the MIPS worked great and I am got away with it zero injuries and just a little stunned. So for actual work as a head saver, NO complaints, 5 stars :) On top of that, it's a very nice piece and it fits perfectly without squeezing my sunglasses on the bridge of my nose like some other helmets do. I also really like the adjustable visor. Just two complaints (nothing is perfect I guess): 1) The little yellow rubber mounts that attach the MIPS membrane to the helmet itself are too cheap and short lived, maybe 1 year or so (and of course the warranty is 1 year). It would be nice if they lasted longer, or at least could be replaced if they break, but Bell says they can't be replaced in the field. I often hold my helmet against my head to squeeze out the sweat while riding - it seems to put too much strain on these dads and they just end up breaking in half. Once that happens, the helmet is basically done. *Maybe* you could still use it with one of the broken ones, but with two or more broken ones it can't be used, it just hovers over your head at that moment. In any case, even if one is broken, not sure if it works properly from a safety point of view. Not sure if this is the Bell design or just the MIPS design in general (same or similar mounts seem to be used by other vendors). 2) The plastic screws that hold the visor in place are terrible. They're almost guaranteed to fall out within a week or two of riding, and you'll likely lose at least one this way and won't be able to find it, as the bolt will eventually fall out, but the visor won't visibly come loose. from the helmet on this side to the next big hit or whatever. I tried applying some Loctite to keep them in place but because they are plastic the solvent dissolved them and rendered them unusable. Now I basically just replace them with metal studs and Loctite as soon as I open the box, something I learned from the previous pair. YMMV. Have fun driving!
