These bags are bigger than we need considering our trash can is only about two gallons. Flaps are a convenient way to secure bags before throwing them down the chute without having to fiddle with ribbons or cords. However, the flaps tend to get in the way if I keep pushing them to the side. I've had virtually no issues with packages breaking or punctures.
