Cape is exactly as it appears in size and design. Our little one loves the pattern. I don't know if it's designed not to sit on, but the back isn't as long as the front. The back simply closes behind the neck with about a foot of the cape covering the back of the head and upper back. I was under the impression that it would be a complete raincoat all round. Anyway, it looks like it will keep the hair away from the baby which is why I recommend this product.
