Latch and self-tapping screw are stainless steel. Make sure you drill the correct pilot hole for each application: for example, a 3/8" black sheet metal screw requires a 3/8" pilot hole when driving into steel. Use the smaller bit when driving in wood or fiberglass. I learned the hard way and took off a few bolts before finding that the 3/8" bit worked well for steel. (My particular application was to fit these latches around the perimeter of the body of a '51 Ford F1 pickup truck so I could fit a trunk lid.)
