Review on Creuset Compact Lever Pink by Nancy Young

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It should work perfectly, but it doesn't.

As another reviewer pointed out, the Le Creuset Compact Lever wine opener is a very sleek industrial design. I love that it looks so much better than the Upright Rabbit and its very strong connection is designed so I don't think it will ever fail. However, for more than double the price of the Vertical Rabbit, it should work perfectly. The gears associated with operating the lever worked smoothly, but the corkscrew screw sometimes got stuck going down through the spiral groove in the cork ejection mechanism. As it turns out, the cork repellent that hung the worm isn't even needed to remove the cork; This is additional design complexity added to remove the cork from the snail after it has been removed from the wine bottle. I suspect that the simple Waiter's Friend and Double Wing corkscrews, which require you to manually remove the cork, are more reliable.

Pros
  • Kitchen Utensils and Gadgets
Cons
  • Not as good as it promises
