Review on πŸ–₯️ Shop Vertiv Avocent SV340H: 4-Port Dual-Head HDMI 4K Ultra HD KVM Switch by Phil Oliveira

Revainrating 4 out of 5

KVM with support for 4K UHDTV at 30Hz RGB or 60Hz Y'CbCr 4:2:0

This is a solidly mounted KVM switch in a metal case (the front panel is plastic). The switching time is about 1 second at the same resolution and about 2 seconds from (2K) HDTV to 4K UHDTV and back, perhaps with a part that is not due to KVM but because my screen is redefining resolution. While the specification says 4K UHDTV (3480 x 2160) at 30 fps (works up to 8-bit RGB without restriction), previous reviews vaguely suggested the possibility of 60 fps, which actually works - with the caveat that the signal is HDMI 1.4: (a) it should be Y'CbCr 4:2:0, which some video cards can play back through their dedicated HDMI port, and (b) it's better to have a monitor that is limited to HDMI 1.4 EDID can be. The RGB format with this resolution/frame rate (e.g. HDMI 2.0) results in a blank screen. And since KVM appears to copy the monitor's EDID, connecting the KVM to a monitor that advertises itself as HDMI 2.0 can cause the graphics card to immediately switch to RGB. For example, HDTV resolution does not work. Interestingly, HDR metadata is passed (the monitor goes into HDR state) but no 10-bit image is passed, not even (2K) HDTV. The HDCP input does not work either.
