PC Products Rotted Wood Repair Kit gives me wood!

I recently purchased a PC Products Rotten Wood Repair Kit, Water Based Hardener, Epoxy Paste and Epoxy Putty, 1 oz, 84113 to repair water damage on a friend who was standing on their porch. The porch is solidly built, except the builder didn't create a way for rain to drain off the structure. As a result, water pooled at the base of the walls and support columns, which are located at the lowest points of the structure. I have used this product several times over the past 25 years as a remodeler to fix rotten wood which would have been very expensive. remove and replace. I spent some time telling my friend about the benefits of this product since most people hadn't heard of it, and then set about repairing the damage. The main advantage is that the finished product will not rot like the original wood because the epoxy putty does not absorb water like wood. The instructions that come with the kit are clear and if you follow them you will have a great finished product. After preparing and curing the softwood with a hardener, I mixed in a two part epoxy putty and proceeded to reshape the affected areas to their original shape. For deeper infills, I drove some galvanized wood screws into the hardwood to give the infill something to hook into. We call it "creating a mechanical connection" in the industry so we can ask for more! Build the sections up a bit, then sand them smooth. If you've worked with bondo or drywall before, the process is the same. Once I had it properly shaped I colored it to match the surrounding areas. Did. My friend examined the entrance and could not tell where the repairs were made. She even patted on the repaired patches and commented on how durable they felt. She is very pleased as the end result of the repair is comparable to replacing the tree and has saved her thousands of dollars based on tree replacement estimates. The drainage problem was solved by cutting a hole in the floor at the lowest point and installing a 4" x 12" floor register to allow windblown rain to drain quickly. I highly recommend this product.
