rupture clasp jams; it does not open. Dangerous.

Today I had to remove the collar from the cat to attach a new dog tag. I have removed this collar several times and it always opens with a strong jerk. So I pulled to open the clasp, but it didn't budge. I pulled harder. It didn't open. I pulled as hard as I could without startling or hurting the cat and it stayed closed. I ended up having to cut off the collar. After removing the cat, I pulled on the ends with all my might to release the clasp. It took a lot of strength but in the end my hands flew apart when the collar piece broke in two because it broke where one side of the clasp attaches to the collar. The clasp itself never came loose. If my cat got caught in the collar, it would get stuck or even choke. Perhaps the shutter manufacturer changed the design due to complaints that it was too easy to disassemble. In any case, in my opinion and personal experience, this is not a safe choice.
