Glue the carpet first!
That's why I bought them to nail the carpet to the wooden floor. There were no instructions for them but after some trial and error I found they work by gluing the side of the handle to the bottom. Mat first and leave the plastic on the other side. Go over it several times and after a few hours peel off the side that will be attached to the ground. When I removed the backing from both sides without giving it time to stick to the backing of the rug, I found that it had just peeled off the rug and was stuck to the floor instead. I hope this advice is helpful.
