Bought this for my Gma for her birthday hoping it would make her laugh when she opens it and also be easier on her arthritic hands than a standard nutcracker. Well she laughed when she opened it and again when she saw the name (Davy Crackit) but as a Nutcracker he's utterly useless. It won't crack a tough nut like a Brazil nut, just so you know. We managed to get him to crack some walnuts, but with difficulty. You really have to push so hard that when you cracked the nut you broke the nut into pieces. My gma couldn't crack a nut at all. One problem is that there's no way to buy on it without standing over it. You cannot sit at a table and use it effectively unless you are tall. We're considering mounting it on a piece of wood that will at least help it stay in place while you try to use it. , but then you definitely have to be above it because that makes it higher. One last thing - another reviewer mentioned a head cavity. Yes. It's really stupid. A squirrel's head is hollow (but filled with grooves and other nooks and crannies where pieces of nuts can get stuck), so there's a good chance your pile of cracked nuts will get stuck in there. lame. I don't know what they were thinking.
