These papers are worth the money. Use a piece of glass as a flat surface. I managed to sharpen one of my concave bonsai knives to razor sharpness. Using Woodstock D2902 Green on a leather belt for a final edge polish was fine, but I ended up using my old pad with a firmly sewn cotton buff with a white stainless steel connection for a final polish. Just make sure you don't overheat the steel. One more thing. The edge of the sandpaper is razor sharp. I cut my finger trying to tuck the sheet I was using back into the elastic.
